He gets to choose his ‘bestfriends’ to sing with him in front of the class,
and he claims he doesn’t need his uniform coz it’s his birthday!
Hanan was impressed with the whole thing.
Imtiyaz celebrated his 6th birthday last week, 21st October 2011. Mr. Hubs and me still can’t believe he’s 6, and spent the night before reflecting on what he has achieved so far.
I have to admit I am not obsessed when it comes to exam results, or extra curricular activities outside of school or comparing my children with other children who might seem superior, or more matured, or maybe smarter than he is. Of course, I try to make him a better person inside out, but only based on his own capabilities and his own interest. I believe we as parents, if we spend more time with our children, we’ll notice every single signal he gives out to us - his concerns, his frustration, his happiness, his proud moments, etc.
Imtiyaz, I admit, is doing very well in school. He can read and write by the age of 5 and he loves music, arts and craft, computer, swimming and his gym classes so much. But that wasn’t my main concern. When I was asked what was my objective sending him to school last 4 years, I answered I wanted him to be able to interact and express himself well. And that’s exactly what I got now.
The boy speaks his mind, and expresses himself freely, but at the same time he chooses his script wisely, cautious not to hurt anyone. What got me truly impressed was his ability to express his love openly to each of us, especially now that he’s got his little sister. He warms our heart every now and then and that’s one quality I hope he’ll keep with himself for the rest of his life.
He's going to ‘big’ school already next year and we have high hopes for him – reason why we carefully chose a school that we hope will benefit him (and us too) not just academically, but also spiritually. Again, I was asked what I wanted by sending him to the school of choice. This time, I answered, I wanted him to have a solid foundation, spiritually, because I believe with the right foundation, if (Allah forbids) one day he decided to swerve a bit, he’ll know how to come back. I also mentioned I wanted him to know every reason why he has to perform the ibadah, instead of just doing things for the sake of doing and being asked to do. I needed a school that works hand in hand with the parents.
Babah, Mama and Hanan loves you so much, Abang and we hope you’ll grow up to be a true muslim and will give your best in everything that you do. One thing you need to work on for now is to handle your frustration and to know that it’s ok to do something wrong because we do learn a lot from mistakes. We hope Hanan will grow up to be just like you!
